SIEM REAP- KOMPONG KLEANG- BANTEAY SREI

Lunch at the hotel.
Continue your journey to the Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake and one of the world’s most diverse and productive ecosystems. On arrival at Kampong Kleang, you’ll board a boat driven by a villager. Crossing the Tonlé Sap at a leisurely pace, you’ll have the opportunity to observe one of the lake’s most beautiful villages built on stilts.
The small local boat is equipped with a motor, enabling it to navigate easily through the village and along the various canals leading to the Great Lake. Once you reach the end
of the canal, you’ll realize just how vast the lake is, with the horizon stretching as far as the eye can see.

Picnic dinner in a traditional house on stilts.
You’ll have the chance to dine in one of the most beautiful houses in the village. Here, you’ll enjoy a fine picnic in an exceptional setting and atmosphere. The
traditional Cambodian houses on stilts are quite common throughout the country, but the floating village and the village of houses on stilts in Kompong Khleang are
must-visit places. Here you’ll discover the daily lives of the fishermen who have lived here in a way of life that has been preserved for generations.

In the afternoon, you’ll continue your day with an excursion to Banteay Srei, a magnificent pink sandstone temple also known as the “Citadel of the
women” and featuring remarkable sculptures of deities. You’re likely to be captivated by this temple, not the largest in the Angkor complex, but by far the most refined. It became mythical when Malraux stole a bas-relief and 2 apsaras from it in 1923. This is the only major temple not to have been built by a king. Its construction is attributed to Yajnavaraha, a courtier and adviser to the king. It’s a true gem of
Khmer art and today one of the best restored sites in the world. On the way back to Siem Reap, visit a palm sugar factory, the romantic temple of Bantey Samre, nicknamed “miniature Angkor Wat”.

typical Cambodian lifestyle. In the city of Battambang, only around twenty traditional houses remain; all the others were destroyed during the Khmer Rouge era
and the war that followed.
Visits are led by the nephew and niece of Madame Bun Roeung, the owner of the house, now 75 years old. She was born in this house and has always lived here, except during the Khmer Rouge period when she had to move. At the end of this tumultuous period in history, she returned to claim her property. She
speaks good French and English and enjoys spending time with visitors to talk about Cambodian history. Tours can be conducted in French or English and can accommodate up to 20 people at a time.
You will then visit Phare Ponleu Selpak, a Battambang-based NGO founded in 1994 to provide underprivileged young Cambodians with an education

BATTAMBANG

Lunch at the hotel.

Today you’ll start your day with a visit to a bustling local market to buy fresh ingredients for your cooking class with a local chef. You’ll learn the art of cooking different Khmer dishes and taste your preparation before packing up what you’ve made for the monks. Then you’ll go to the nearby pagoda, where you’ ll attend the monks’ daily rituals, before making an offering of your preparation, and receiving the monks’ blessing through their prayers in exchange for your offering.

It’s a unique opportunity to discover the daily habits of Cambodian families and the way of life in a pagoda. In Cambodia, food is seen as an instrument of connection between monks and the local community, a revered tradition dating back centuries and a way of showing gratitude and respect for the Buddhist faith.

After this experience, it’s time to say goodbye to your chef and continue your discoveries.

Dinner in a local restaurant.

Embark on an original ride on the Bamboo Train. The Bamboo Train is one of Battambang’s most famous attractions. Originally, it was a real means of transport used by the population during the war, but it was also a very valuable way of moving soldiers from one province to another. Nowadays, locals still use the railroad to transport sacks of rice and, of course, to get around! It’s a unique and really fun way to discover Battambang’s most beautiful rural landscapes, and it’s incredibly authentic to admire the region’s beauty in this way. Follow the locals’ example and climb aboard the bamboo train!

You’ll visit the bats in the caves of Phnom Sampov. Phnom Sampov dominates the landscape as a natural and historical site known for its various hilltop shrines and temples, most of which are memorials to its “murder caves” of the Khmer Rouge era. Phnom Sampov is best known for the daily spectacle of its bat caves. At the end of the day, sit down at the foot of the hill to watch the millions of them emerge from the caves for the night.
