You’ll continue northward and reach Ayutthaya in a few minutes.

Sukhothai

Breakfast at the hotel

8:30 a.m. Meet your guide

The ancient city of Sukhothai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the perfect embodiment of the Asian sites that have captured the imagination of explorers, young and old alike. Marvel at the magnificent Buddha statues and the beautifully carved elephants supporting an imposing stupa. However, Sukhothai should not be reduced to just this atmosphere. In fact, far beyond the beauty of its temples, it remains one of Thailand’s oldest cities and also plays a major role in the development of architecture, art, writing, and spirituality—the foundations of Thai culture.

Explore the Sukhothai Historical Park by Bike – 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
(Sukhothai Historical Park)
Today, cycle through the streets of the ancient city of Sukhothai (meaning “Dawn of Happiness”) to discover the history of Thailand’s most important kingdom. It’s a pleasure to explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed temples and monasteries on two wheels, stopping to admire the carved elephants, depictions of Buddha, and the tall stupa.
Explore Sukhothai Historical Park, as well as Wat Sri Chum (“Talking Buddha”)

Distance and duration of the bike tour: 1.5 to 2 hours / 4 to 6 kilometers, including sightseeing.
Note: Sukhothai Historical Park hours: 6:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Difficulty level: 0 – suitable for anyone who can ride a bike

Make your own amulet and enjoy a home-cooked meal (about 3 hours, including lunch)
Not far from the Historical Park, you’ll meet the owner of the house where you’ll have lunch. A local history enthusiast, he’ll make you feel right at home as he shares his knowledge with you and you enjoy a simple yet delicious local specialty: Sukhothai noodles. You’ll also have the opportunity to make your own good-luck charm: a Buddhist amulet to take home with you.

Sukhothai – Lampang – Chiang Mai

Breakfast at the hotel

8:00 a.m. Meet your guide at
. You will leave Sukhothai and head to Lampang.

Lampang is known for its history as an economic hub for the teak trade. In the late 19th century, wealthy merchants had large houses built, some with carved facades. We invite you to immerse yourself in this atmosphere; you’ll pass by the Louis Leonowens House and arrive at the Ratsada Phisek Bridge, from where you’ll set off on foot for a stroll through the old town along Thanon Talat Kao, lined with old wooden houses—reminders of a glorious past. The Moung Ngwe Zin Building and the Kanchanawong House are fine examples of this.

Dinner in a local restaurant.

You’ll continue on your way north of Lampang and discover the Thung Kwian Market, where you’ll find a wide variety of local products, including northern-style sausages, fried insects, spices, fruits, ceramics, textiles, and all kinds of clothing, and more.

You’ll then continue on to Chiang Mai (about a 1-hour drive), a city that many describe as the most charming in Thailand. The most important cultural center in northern Thailand boasts an impressive and diverse heritage of ancient temples: from colorful structures that shimmer in the sun to more understated beauties with earthy or rustic tones of brick and wood. The surrounding countryside is simply spectacular: Chiang Mai is also the gateway to the northern mountains, offering invigorating hikes, enigmatic elephants, and culturally intriguing ethnic minority villages.

You’ll head to Doi Suthep, the centuries-old mountain that towers over the city—one of the highest hills overlooking and watching over Chiang Mai. Doi Suthep is also one of the most spiritually significant and revered temples in the north of the country.
You’ll have the chance to listen to the monks chant—a moving experience and a true encounter with Thailand’s spiritual tradition—before watching the sunset and its equally magical play of colors at dusk from the temple’s terrace overlooking the valley.

An Evening in Chiang Mai by Songthaew

In the late afternoon (around 4:30 p.m.), you’ll set out to explore the city of Chiang Mai aboard a songthaew—those local pickup trucks with two benches facing each other in the back for carrying passengers. You’ll start by heading to a hidden spot near the river where you’ll sample Northern Thai dishes while sipping a refreshing drink and watching the sun set. You’ll then head out to explore the bustling markets and pass by famous landmarks on your way to the Old City center. When you stop at the public park, you’ll see locals exercising there at the end of the day—it’s a great spot to watch people doing yoga, playing the very physical game of takraw, or playing badminton. There are also free aerobics classes open to everyone! You’ll then hop back on your songthaew, which will take you near the river where your local restaurant is located. You’ll end the evening in this picturesque riverside setting, savoring delicious local dishes.

Explore Bangkok Like a Local – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Take the BTS (skytrain) to travel across the city; you’ll have the chance to see the city “from above” from a lesser-known perspective, starting at Chatuchak Station (7 stops with a transfer at Siam Square & 6 stops to Saphan Taksin) all the way to Taksin Bridge on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, where you’ll board a local ferry heading upstream to Tha Tien Pier to visit the nearby Wat Pho. This site features more than a thousand depictions of the Buddha, as well as its largest statue—one of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks: the Reclining Buddha. You’ll likely hear the monks’ morning chants from the main hall. A little later, walk to Wat Phra Kaew, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha—the holiest site for Thais—which is part of the Grand Palace complex with its many chedis and golden-spired roofs, reception halls, magnificently decorated buildings, statues, and more. It’s undoubtedly the highlight of any visit to Bangkok and is not to be missed under any circumstances.
