Itinerary

D1

Bari - Ostuni

Participants arrive at Bari airport during the day and are welcomed by our local correspondent, who will accompany you throughout your stay in Italy.

Transfer by private coach or minibus to your hotel in the Ostuni region.

Handover of keys and installation in rooms.

Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.

D2

Poligano and Monopoli

Lunch at the hotel.

Morning dedicated to discovering the characteristic historic center of Monopoli, with its little old port full of fishing boats, the little Piazza Garibaldi with its bistros, the narrow streets, the Church of St. Teresa and the facade of Palazzo Palmieri.

Dinner at the hotel or in a restaurant during the excursion

The afternoon will be dedicated to a walk along the seafront through the center of Polignano a Mare, a town built on cliffs with the beautiful little beach of Lama Monachile.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel in the Ostuni area.

D3

Bari

Lunch at the hotel.

In the morning, discover Bari by strolling along the Lungomare Nazario Sauro, a beautiful promenade running alongside the Adriatic Sea. But it’s the old town of Bari that really catches your eye: a medieval town with narrow streets and staircases that sometimes remind you of a medina. It’s not uncommon to see women in front of their doors making pasta with their fingertips. You’ll also discover two beautiful churches (exteriors): San Nicola, a Romanesque basilica built at the instigation of a Norman prince (with a façade of rare nobility, an episcopal throne and a curious crypt housing the tomb of St. Nicholas, whose relics were brought from Asia Minor by sailors from Bari) and the cathedral, of Byzantine design, remodeled in Romanesque style with Baroque additions.

Restaurant dinner

The afternoon is free for personal exploration of the city of Bari.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

D4

Alberobello & Locorotondo

Lunch at the hotel.

Spend the morning discovering the region’s trulli, tiny cone-roofed houses dotted around vineyards and gardens. Stop off at Alberobello to get a close-up view of these famous dwellings, which look as if they were made for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Dinner at the hotel or in a restaurant during the excursion

We then stop for a walk to discover Locorotondo, a village perched on a 400-metre-high hill and ranked as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. Locorotondo is a charming village of whitewashed houses perched on a hill.

Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

D5

Lecce

Lunch at the hotel.

A day to discover the city of Lecce, “the Florence of the Baroque”, where sumptuous architecture is the backdrop for exquisite ornamentation. The local stone, particularly soft, lent itself to the whims of the sculptors’ chisels. From the outside, you’ll discover the remains of the Roman amphitheatre, the Venetian-built church of San Marco, and plenty of evidence of the boom in art here in the 17th and 18th centuries. Triumphal arches, obelisks, palaces, caryatids, fountains – everything is arranged in a theatrical Baroque dĂ©cor.

Continue on to the Piazza del Duomo, home to an astonishing campanile, the cathedral, the seminary palace, the episcopal palace and several dazzling facades. Many other details of the city will hold your attention, testifying to the invention and exquisite refinement of a civilization that we would venture to describe as “Mozartean”.

Dinner in town, then free time in Lecce.

Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

D6

Ostuni & Martina Franca

Lunch at the hotel.

In the morning, visit Ostuni, built on three hills (the highest bearing the medieval town). You’ll discover the picturesque old town, with its Baroque and Renaissance palaces, the 13th-century cathedral (visit outside) at the top of the hill and narrow streets reminiscent of a Cycladic village.

Dinner in a restaurant during the tour

The afternoon is devoted to a stroll through the historic center of Martina Franca, located on the highest hill in the Murge, with its interesting Baroque buildings and numerous small rococo palaces that give it a very endearing appearance.

Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

D7

Matera

Lunch at the hotel.

Day trip to Matera, in the Basilicata region, where the main attraction is the “Sassi”, troglodytic houses made up of white buildings stacked so that the roofs serve as streets. These inhospitable cave dwellings, with no running water or electricity, were inhabited by entire families until the 1950s.

Matera was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.

Continuing on to discover the “Strada dei Sassi”, which runs along the wild gorge and around the rock supporting the cathedral.

Dinner in a restaurant during the tour

Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
